GENERAL
What’s the full name of
the WCFL?
Western Communities Football League. Although a common mistake is that the "W" is for Wellington, the WCFL predates the establishment of the Village of Wellington by a few years, so was originally intended to serve all of our surrounding areas in Western Palm Beach County.
How long has the WCFL been around?
The WCFL was started in 1992.
Is the WCFL associated with the
Village of Wellington?
We are the preferred football provider
for the Village of Wellington, and they provide oversight since we play on
fields managed by the Village, but the WCFL is an independent organization, and
not run directly by the Village.
Is the WCFL a for-profit
business?
The WCFL is a non-profit 501(c)(3)
organization. We are run completely by volunteers and have no paid positions. Our revenue comes entirely from registration fees, sponsorships and fundraisers; we are not subsidized by the Village of Wellington.
What are your offerings?
We have two seasons each year: Flag Football in the Spring,
and Tackle Football in the Fall.
TACKLE FOOTBALL
What are the dates for the Tackle season?
The Tackle season usually runs from early August until mid-November, finishing before Thanksgiving. Please see the Home page for more specific dates on the latest season.
What equipment does the League provide?
As part of the registration fee, the league provides use of a helmet and shoulder pads, which need to be returned at the end of the season. The league also provides a full game uniform (jersey, pants and socks), as well as a practice jersey. All clothing is yours to keep.
What equipment do Players need to provide?
At a minimum, players will need cleats, a mouthpiece and practice pants. We also recommend that players bring their own water to practices and games. Footballs are provided by the league for team use, but players may also want to have their own.
How much is the Registration Fee?
Please see the Registration page for pricing of the current season.
What are the age groups for the different Divisions?
There are four Divisions for Tackle:
Ultimate (5, 6 & 7 years old)
Prep (8 & 9 years old)
Varsity (10 & 11 years old)
Pro (12, 13 & 14 years old)
